Professor Sylwester Porowski

Prof. Porowski has been a deputy director for New Technologies of Unipress Institute of High Pressure Physics of Polish Academy of Science since 2011. Professor created new scientific methods of using high pressure for crystallization of semi-conductors, superconductors and biological materials. Over last 10 years major accomplishments of professor Porowski include creation – together with his team – undislocated GaN crystal structures, a base for blue optoelectronics. He created a modern laboratory and through the organization of close co-operation between Polish and foreign institutions, he brought to life Strategic Governmental Program for Development of Blue Optoelectronics.

Research activity under profesor Porowski guidance consist in 40% of application studies. As a result of this policy and competences of implementation teams, 9 spin-off companies emerged in the Institute. 3 of them – Cynel, Hydron and TopGaN are to-date operational and worth about 50-60mn PLN (€12-15mn). Professor’s expertise in the field of commercialization grew from starting and running spin-off companies.
